(PJ) Systems Administrator Level 3 (TS/SCI w/ FS Poly)

POSITION:  Systems Administrator - Level 3
LOCATION:  Annapolis Junction/Fort Meade, MD 20701

REQUIRED CLEARANCE:  TS/SCI with FULL SCOPE POLYGRAPH (must have prior to applying)

Note: Position is Part-Time (16-20 hours per month)

Position Summary:

Perform system administration on the stand-alone network. The network includes VMware ESXi servers, Cisco switches, an Isilon storage array, Windows domain controllers (VMs and a physical server), Centrify software, and over 60 workstations, which are a mix of Linux (primarily running Ubuntu LTS release) and several versions of Windows. In addition to standard administration and maintenance of the network, the SA will be responsible for aiding branch management in designing and implementing modifications in order to meet Government security standards. This will likely include migrating a substantial portion of the network to a thin-client architecture.

  • Build, configure, and maintain hardware components of the lab network
  • Install, configure, and maintain up-to-date software components in the lab network
  • Research new software and hardware solutions
  • Complete necessary steps in the Government purchasing process to acquire new hardware and software
  • Maintain a computer virtualization infrastructure
  • Maintain network-attached storage devices for secure storage and compartmentalization of information
  • Assist management with accreditation process
  • Research option for system backup; present options to management and implement chosen solution
  • Install and configure virtual servers and clients, using various operating systems, as mission needs dictate
  • Perform and manage virus scanning
  • Work with management to determine how to best meet system security requirements; implement appropriate measures to ensure compliance
  • Perform problem solving
  • Document completed tasks

Required Capabilities:
  • Provides support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems
  • Manages the daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems
  • Provides Tier 1 (Help Desk) problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems
  • Provide assistance to users in accessing and using IT systems
  • Provides support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.
  • Provides Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems
  • Provides support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers
  • Optimizes system operations and resource utilization, and performs system capacity analysis and planning
  • Provides support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remains involved in the resolution process
  • Provides in-depth experience in trouble-shooting IT systems
  • Configures and manages UNIX and Windows operating systems and installs/loads operating system software, troubleshoots, maintains integrity and configures network components along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance
  • Provides detailed analysis and feedback to agency management and internal customers for escalated tickets

MINIMUM Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Fifteen (15) years' experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity within the Federal Government is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional five (5) years of system administration experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree
REQUIRED Technical Skills:
  • Experience with VMware ESXI servers
  • Linux and Windows system administration experience
  • Familiarity and experience with implementing Government information security standards, policies, and practices
  • Experience managing a lab/network consisting of a mix of hardware, software, storage, and virtualization infrastructure
  • Experience consulting on backup solutions and procurement of hardware and software solutions
