Job Description:
Kenjya-Trusant is seeking a candidate to fill the role of Public Diplomacy Strategist to support the Office of Policy Planning and Public Diplomacy in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL/PPD).
Clearance Requirement: Active Secret
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working under the direction of the Public Diplomacy Advisor, and indirectly from the Deputy Office Director and Office Director, the Public Diplomacy Strategists supports the DRL/PPD office in public diplomacy related to democracy, human rights, and labor by:
- Supporting PPD’s mandate to develop communications strategies and programs to inform and influence foreign audiences on U.S. foreign policy related to democracy, human rights, and labor rights.
- Developing, implementing, and evaluatinge the bureau’s Public Diplomacy Strategy
- Liaising with regional and functional bureaus, as well as posts, to propose, develop, and execute public diplomacy programming.
- Assisting with the management bureau social media and other digital properties.
- Assisting with the management of the DRL allocation of public diplomacy funding.
- Supporting the release of and amplify with public diplomacy tools the flagship bureau products, such as the Human Rights Report and International Religious Freedom Report.
- Briefing supervisor, co-workers, and principals as needed on ongoing public diplomacy programs, challenges, and opportunities.
- Leading the Human Rights Award notification and nomination process.
- Attending regular staff and team meetings within DRL and with key Department partner offices.
- Limited travel.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
Required Skills and Background:
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Excellent writing skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including follow-up on pending tasks
- Ability to operate significantly under own initiative and as part of a team, crafting proposals and recommending effective approaches to tasks.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of actors, including other office staff and team members, the Front Office, the Executive Office staff, interagency colleagues, and outside visitors.
- Microsoft office suite skills
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with US foreign affairs/policy
- Experience or familiarity with public diplomacy, social media, and other digital tools
- Familiarity with the Department of State policies and procedures
